The Vikings are finalizing a trade to acquire Seattle cornerback Tramaine Brock, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. The Vikings will send a seventh round pick to Seattle for Brock, according to Ian Rapoport. Brock signed with the Seahawks on Aug. 17. At the time, multiple reports indicated Minnesota reportedly expressed interest in signing Brock.

The 49ers released Brock on April 7 after he was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence and child endangerment. All of the charges were eventually dismissed.

At 28 years old, Brock recorded 11 interceptions and a forced fumble during his seven seasons in San Francisco. He played his junior season of college at the University of Minnesota and was third on the team in tackles.

He joins cornerback Xavier Rhodes in a Vikings secondary that needed additional depth. In 2017, both Rhodes and Brock ranked in the top-three among cornerbacks that registered 750 or more snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. They also each surrendered a 50% or lower catch rate. Brock has started every game over the last two seasons and made a distinct impact in the San Francisco secondary.

The Vikings needed another defensive back as inexperienced cornerbacks Mackensie Alexander and Trae Waynes were going to play extensive roles. In addition, the team must have an insurance policy for an aging Terence Newman. Brock has performed at a high level and finished 23rd out of 111 cornerbacks in Pro Football Focus' rankings. In exchange for a seventh round pick, the Vikings certainly aren't taking a major risk. He can play nickel cornerback and did so in Seattle during the preseason. It wouldn't be surprising if he competed with cornerback Mackensie Alexander for the the same role in Minnesota.
