Position Analysis: Running Backs

Today on Vikings Corner we are breaking down the Vikings running backs. This position has been a strength for the Vikings in past seasons. This season that could be a whole different story. With Adrian Peterson coming off a torn ACL and the arrest scandal, things could be very different.

I believe Toby Gerhart will have a breakout season this year. Gerhart looks even stronger then he did last season. Toby is a power running back but seemed to be a little speedier last season. I really like the power element that Gerhart brings to this team. You can put him in the game and he can carry the ball as much as you need him to. Gerhart must be ready if Adrian Peterson doesn't recover well from the ACL injury.

Adrian Peterson will battle back and be just as strong as he was before the tore an ACL. Peterson is a "superfreak athlete," who will can recover extremely fast. Adrian is still one of the best running backs in the game, but you do have to wonder if he is past his expiration date as a running back in this league.

The sleeper third running back at this position is former Connecticut Huskie Jordan Todman. He has speed and elusiveness. He is a little undersized which can be a concern. I believe he will be a great replacement for Lorenzo Booker. Todman can't be any worse then Booker who fumbled nearly everytime he touched the ball.

Overall, I think there are many question marks at this position, but if they can be resolved, it can be a strength of this team. I hope the ACL turns out well for Adrian, Gerhart can continue his improvement, and Todman can become a nice fill in option for the Vikings.

Thanks for reading!
